INDEPENDENT Newspapers’ quest to capture market share in the Eastern Cape began in earnest this week, when it launched Xhosa daily Ilisolezwe.
Editor Unathi Kondile said on Wednesday that the paper’s digital platform, a mobi site, was up and running.
“We had an embargo on copy before the launch, but content is available now. Traffic numbers are not available yet,” he said.
“And we have been inundated with calls from people asking us where they can get copies of the paper,” said Mr Kondile from his East London office.
The paper has a 60,000 print run split between Port Elizabeth and Durban.
“Forty thousand papers are printed in Port Elizabeth and the rest are printed in Durban.”
The Eastern Cape market has been traditionally dominated by Times Media Group titles The Herald and Daily Dispatch.
