Woman shot in front of church congregation dies

10 November 2015 By MyPortElizabeth

Port Elizabeth – A woman who was critically wounded after being shot in front of her fellow congregants at the Arise and Shine Christian Church in New Brighton last week, has died.

Police spokesperson Mncedi Mbombo said 51-year-old Nondumiso Sinkankanka had died in hospital from her injuries.

Sinkankanka had just left the church, which is on the corner of Singapi and Gunguluza streets in New Brighton, after the evening service at 21:00 when shots rang out.

Sinkankanka had fled back into the church, followed by a lone gunman, who shot her in front of her fellow congregants.

Mbombo said Sinkankanka had been shot several times by the man before he fled on foot.

Mbombo said the docket would now be changed from an attempted murder case to murder.

He said the police were still appealing to the public to come forward with any information that can help them in the case.
