The recent uproar over University of Cape Town (UCT) vice-chancellor Mamokgethi Phakeng congratulating a student on his honours project in which he ended his acknowledgements with the phrase‚ “ONE SETTLER‚ ONE BULLET!!” refers.
I only have one thing to say; “As a white male South African the phrase does not concern me one iota because I am NOT a SETTLER, I am African, I was born here and am proud of my country.”
At the end of the day – SETTLER is defined as ‘a person who arrives, especially from another country, in a new place in order to live there and use the land’.
So in that narrow context South Africa DOES NOT have that many settlers in the context of white people who, if the hype is to be believed, are leaving South Africa and not settling here. Of course if you are someone from the East or the African continent then you should be enraged at “One Settler, One Bullet” chant.
PE YouTuber Renaldo Gouws had this to say:

Mamokgethi Phakeng tweeted: “Congratulations dear son on completing this paper! I would like to study it at some stage. In the meantime‚ let me be kliye [sic]: I am proud of you! Way more than you can imagine! Welldone! [sic]”
