Since General Motors is pulling out of South Africa and some of its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) campaigns, like The Herald Citizen of the Year accolade, won’t be justifiable and will be replaced in the long run.
I suggest that, as the only credible car manufacturing company in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metro, Volkswagen should take over the reins and give away the legendary Polo Vivo Citi to the OPEN Winner in YELLOW, Youth category in RED random Voters being offered the BLUE one. Cell C should also be roped in to giveaway consolation prizes like AirTime / Data bundles, the aspirational Caterpillar CAT S60 and/or Samsung S8 smartphones, Tablets etc.
Volkswagen could also give away Vouchers to its Auto People pavilion interaction centres in Uitenhage to online voters.
Last but not least, the winners must based on meritocracy (the person with the most inspirational impact irrespective the colour of the skin) and not some “Social Cohesion” and/or Transformation drivel as The Citizen Of The Year campaign is not there to ingratiate The Herald to politicians and/or the forever-aggrieved, I believe.
