“WE made plastic. We depend on it. Now we’re drowing in it.â€? – National Geograpic.
This miracle material has made modern life possible, but more than 40% of it is used just once and it’s choking waterways across the globe.
The Institute of Waste Management of Southern Africa’s Eastern Cape branch will be hosting a waste conference at the World of Windows at Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium, to focus on the devastating effects of plastic polluting water.
It will also focus on the current challenges faced on a local and global scale and industry professionals will share valuable research and possible solutions.
Some of the speakers include Alan Stapleton from Spar Eastern Cape who will talk about “War on plastic; Dylan Bailey from Bayworld will inform guests about “Numerical models and the science of plastic pollution; Theo von Ruben (IWMSA EC) “Insights into waste minimisation of ocean-going vessels and Dr Tony Ribbink (Sustainable Seas Trust) “Zero plastics to the seas of Africa.
- The conference will be held on Tuesday, October 29 from 12:00 to 19:00. For more information contact Shantelle Jonas at the IWMSA EC branch on 043 733 8349 or e-mail firstname.lastname@example.org
