Dear Renaldo Gouws
I read with interest your 26 March tirade against Mr Roland Williams where you accuse him of “living off the fat of the land” and not really contributing much to the collective soul of our beautiful city.
I must, sadly for you, take umbrage at your timing as my friend Roland Williams was scheduled to attend an important Press Conference that day – one that is bringing an international focus to our beautiful city. PLUS dear Roland was also invited to a civic reception later that evening for this self same event.
SADLY he failed to make his presence known at both.
OBVIOUSLY I now know why he failed to attend both events as he was too busy defending himself against your little tirade.
PLEASE do us all a favour and try to not have a tirade against officials paid for by the ratepayer during their working hours and, in the interests of saving money, please do so over weekends and public holidays – Thank You.

As a taxpayer and someone that loves Port Elizabeth this is a problem for me. I do my part and help where I can and it’s not even my job. I pride myself in helping those who desperately need it. The sad part is that I can’t say the same for the people that are paid and elected to do so.
If this metro was functioning like a well oiled machine I would say go and enjoy yourself with the salary you earn, however, it seems regardless of whether or not you perform you reap the benefits of your position and the salary that comes with it.
I would not boast about my title and life of luxury when tens of thousands of people suffer daily because of the failure of those in power to deliver to those who need it most. Your title is supposed to be a title that is focused on serving the people, not a title to impress and demand respect.
I know this will more than likely fall on deaf ears and I might even get a sarcastic response (which is normal) but I just had to say something considering those who are supposed to speak on behalf of those with no voice, aren’t saying much.”
