On 26 June 2013, Chevrolet South Africa and Cricket Eastern Cape announced the renewal of their initial 2007/2008 sponsorship agreement for the Chevrolet Warriors cricket team for the next three years.
The renewed sponsorship commences from the start of the 2013/2014 domestic season and will run until the end of the 2015/2016 season.
Malcolm Gauld, Vice President for Vehicle Sales, Service and Marketing at General Motors South Africa (GMSA), says that Chevrolet South Africa is delighted to renew the sponsorship of the Chevrolet Warriors for another three years. “Based in our home town of Port Elizabeth, our sponsorship is a natural fit on many levels. Not only does it provide an opportunity to showcase local cricketing talent but, via Cricket Eastern Cape’s development programmes, allows us the privilege of nurturing and developing talent from previously disadvantaged communities.
“We are immensely proud to have seen the likes of Aya Gqamane, Vuyisa Makhaphela, Solo Nqweni and Colin Ackermann emanate from these programmes. We wish the team, coaching staff and management all the best for the coming season.”
Cricket Eastern Cape CEO Dave Emslie, comments: “I am delighted that Chevrolet has renewed this iconic sponsorship. We have been on an unbelievable ‘ride’ with them as sponsors. Their commitment and their capacity to back it up with an all-important activation spend has ensured the sponsorship is impactful and ground-breaking in many respects.
“The Chevrolet High Performance Programme, which forms part of the sponsorship, is clearly working to full effect and is something that will ensure we have the capacity to develop our home-grown players. We are looking forward to the next three years with Chevrolet and want to thank them for showing their support and commitment to the Chevrolet Warriors.”
