Mangaliso Mosehle smashed a career best 65 off 36 balls (7 fours and 2 sixes) to set up The Unlimited Titans for a 40-run bonus point victory over the Warriors in the second leg of the RAM SLAM T20 Challenge double-header at St. George’s Park on Saturday to all but guarantee his franchise direct qualification to a home final.
The Titans now have 30 points from 8 matches and can technically still be overhauled by the Cape Cobras but the latter would have to win all three their remaining matches which are all away from home with a bonus point and hope the Titans come unstuck in their remaining matches. The Titans have both their remaining matches at home.
It is a very tall order and the Cobras are more likely to be involved in the battle for second and third positions with the bizhub Highveld Lions, the Sunfoil Dolphins and the Warriors.
The Titans are undoubtedly the tournament favourites and whoever wants to beat them will have to find the answer to their opening partnership of Quinton de Kock and Henry Davids who again set things up with their stand of 72 in 9.1 overs.
The Warriors did not help themselves by dropping five catches, three of which were offered by De Kock. By the time they finally accepted his fourth life, the Titans were well and truly on their way. Mosehle and Farhaan Behardien added 69 for the third wicket in only 6.3 overs and then Mosehle scored most of the runs for the unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 13 off 10 balls.
The Warriors fought manfully to the end but losing 3 wickets up front for only 8 runs was a fatal body blow. Chris Morris took 3 wickets for only 15 runs and is now the leading wicket-taker in the competition (15) while De Kock has become the third player to achieve an aggregate of over 300 after Kevin Pietersen and Reeza Hendricks.
The strength of the Titans lies in the fact that they are able to field five members of the Proteas T20 squad that won its recent series in India and also the depth they enjoy with eight batsmen and no fewer than nine bowling options.
They have already loaned Theunis de Bruyn out to the VKB Knights and have the likes of Qaasim Adams, Heino Kuhn and Heinrich Klaasen sitting on the bench.
Mosehle and Morris were the obvious candidates for the RAM Slammer and Deliverer of the Match respectively.
