After receiving numerous queries from residents with regards to the re-registration for old age grants, I sent questions to SASSA and received the following feedback:
Q. What does SASSA mean by re-registering – should everybody re-apply for their pensions (all the documents, etc.)?
A. “Re-registering is the enrolment of all beneficiaries with the new company that will administer the payments of all grants. The first phase (from 01 March to 28 March 2012) targets only those who receive their grants on the first of every month (i.e. SEKULULA beneficiaries). All those who receive their moneys at the pay points will be enrolled during their payments in April 2012. The second phase: all those who receive their payments on the third of every month will be enrolled from June to November 2012.
Q. Does EVERYBODY need to do this, whether they have received letters from SASSA asking them to review their pensions or not or do they need to wait until they receive the letters?
A. There won’t be letters sent to the beneficiaries: all grant recipients must enrol.
Q. The people are being informed that they need to take their id documents and go to the Zwide offices to change their bank cards. Is this correct?
A. Beneficiaries are required to bring their identity documents (and a copy thereof) and the Sekulula bank cards for those who receive their moneys on the first of every month and those who will be enrolling in April at their pay points need to take their Allpay cards with their id’s. Fortunately the beneficiaries can also enrol at their nearest SASSA offices.
Q. If they need to do this, where else can they go to change their cards?
A. All SASSA offices can be used to enrol.
Q. Is there a set date by when they need to re-register to avoid loosing their pension?
A. All beneficiaries are requested to enrol as from this month (Sekulula cases), April (pay point beneficiaries) and the rest from June until November 2012.
NB: Beneficiaries must be encouraged to enrol so as to avoid any difficulties that may follow this process. I also need to mention the fact that there will be people who did not receive their moneys and such cases must be reported to the SASSA officials as soon as possible.
