Did you know that jobs in the accountancy field are a top career choice among South African school leavers? And that the average pay for an entry-level Chartered Accountant in South Africa is about R400 000 per year?
Nelson Mandela Bay pupils in Grade 11 and 12 will have the opportunity to learn facts like this and plenty more at an accounting career evening hosted by Nelson Mandela Metropolitan University’s School of Accounting on April 22.
Parents, teachers and school guidance counsellors can also attend the popular career evening, which has been run by the School of Accounting for the past five years – and last year drew 550 participants.
The evening is geared towards pupils who excel in mathematics and/or accounting – and aims to provide information and insight about the accounting and Chartered Accountancy profession, the range of high quality programmes offered by NMMU‘s School of Accounting, and the university’s admission requirements for accounting studies. Pupils will also receive information about two accounting holiday schools in July – for Grade 11 and 12 pupils – which NMMU runs annually.
Speakers include School of Accounting Director Prof Frans Prinsloo, KPMG (Eastern Cape) Managing Partner Alan Barr, NMMU academic trainee and top BCom (Honours) Accounting student for 2013 Khanya Ndzululeka, along with several students from the School of Accounting.
“Year on year, the career evening proves to be a successful initiative,” said Prinsloo. “There is much evidence to support the fact that accounting studies ‘gives you wings’ – with a good qualification in accounting, the sky really is the limit to one’s success in the business world.
“We will provide pupils with more information about career and study options in accounting – and look forward to meeting all the aspiring accountants.”
Attendees will also have the opportunity to tour NMMU’s south campus before the evening’s activities commence.
The accounting career evening takes place at 6pm on April 22 in the South Campus Auditorium at NMMU. The campus tour starts at 4.45pm. To attend, contact Suzanne Vermeulen: Tel: +27 (0)41 504 4690 or E-mail: Suzanne.firstname.lastname@example.org
