Meter Readers protest outside council chambers on Wednesday 9 March. They are employed by four different companies and are saying that their wages are not enough whilst calling for an end to what they term ‘outsourcing’.
Apparently four companies tendered for the contract to read meters and the municipality ‘instead of accepting the lowest tender’ made an agreement to give all four companies the work provided that they agreed to the lowest tendered amount.
Given this – surely the Municipality was the one that engineered this ‘problem’. And why would the tenderers all agree to to the lowest price? Surely they are intelligent people who understand their way around a calculator?
