Last nights IDP meeting at the Walmer Town Hall was called off after 50 minutes of fruitless debate after angry Walmer township residents voiced their opinions and queried why the meeting was not being held in the township itself.
This after numerous requests by both residents and DA councillors to schedule a special meeting within Walmer Township itself, for these residents. They have specific challenges that must be resolved soonest.
ANC councillors who were present agreed to schedule such a meeting and it was agreed that Wards 1,2,3 and 5 attend the Tuesday evening (tonight) meeting at Newton Park Library to raise concerns on matters within their Wards.
Now is your chance to make yourself heard by the officials and councillors who will be present at the meeting.
You have seen our Ward 1 IDP and list of priorities highlight these issues tonight. If you want to raise or add matters, do it tonight, and send me an email so that I can add it to our document.
Our DA Caucus Leader, Leon de Villiers, submitted this letter – Proposed municipal rates and tariffs are immoral – which highlights why we should not accept the huge tariff increases. Use this info tonight if you can. We must all object to these proposed increases.
The ANC’s inability to listen to the electorate was evident in the failed meeting last night, and the angry township residents would not allow the meeting to proceed. Hopefully the ANC has now learnt its lesson and that special meetings will in future be scheduled within Walmer Township for issues that affect this community.
Tonights meeting (Tuesday) should be constructive and fruitful – please try to attend and raise matters!!
Meeting details: Tuesday, 7th May, 6pm to 8pm, at the Newton Park Library.
Grateful thanks are extended to the eight Ward 1 residents who did turn up for Monday evenings meeting. Apologies that you wasted your time, through another ANC bungle.
Cllr Stanford Slabbert
