The South African Transport and Allied Workers Union (Satawu) and management of the Algoa Bus Company are expected to meet in Port Elizabeth on Wednesday morning to try to resolve the on-going bus strike.
Hundreds of commuters have been left stranded in the Nelson Mandela Bay Metropolitan Municipality as the strike enters its 13th day.
The workers have a number of demands including the provision of transport to funerals of colleagues and amendments to the company’s disciplinary code.
“We are of the view that we may raise two to three issues that had been the key issues that enforced workers to embark on industrial action and the other issues because all the issues are eight issues. There other issues we believe can be dealt amicably, whilst the strike is off and the workers are working,” says Provincial Satawu Secretary Honest Sinama.
