I would just like to know if other tenants have experienced any similar problems when renting from a landlord through a letting agent.
I leased a house in a complex in February 2012 and the house had no alarm system or any security gates on the three doors that the house has.
So I got permission to install security gates from the owner through the agent and installed three security gates.
Now I will be moving out at the end of February do to the exorbitant increase in the monthly rental. However the problem arises in that I asked the agent to ask the owner if he will reimburse me for the security gates but the landlord said no. I know the lease agreement gives the landlord the right to reimburse or not but I can’t believe that in this day and age a landlord can have a house with no security gates on the doors. I believe through the agent that the landlord is glad for the improvement made to his house. I can understand if the addition was a splash pool but security gates I believe are essential today. I also believe that the tenant to move in would not have taken the house if it didn’t have the security gates.
