Following the commitment by Executive Mayor, Dr Danny Jordaan, to take council back to the people and the subsequent overwhelming positive feedback after last week’s Nangoza Jebe Hall sitting, the Council of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality will convene at the Uitenhage Indoor Sports Centre on Thursday, 4 June at 10am.
Speaker of Council, Cllr Maria Hermans, summoned the Special Council Meeting as a continuation of the previous sitting where Dr Jordaan was unanimously elected Executive Mayor, Mr Bicks Ndoni as Deputy Executive Mayor and Mr Litho Suka as Chief Whip.
During his maiden speech as Executive Mayor, Dr Jordaan said: “We want Council to debate and discuss in your presence and not behind your back. You must hear what is happening in council. You must see what is happening in council. And so we are going to take council to the people,” he said followed by applause.
The purpose for the meeting at the community facility at Park Lane, Uitenhage is to consider the draft Integrated Development Plan (IDP), the draft Service Delivery Budget Implementation Plan (SDBIP) and the Budgets for the 2015/16 financial year.
