Police officials in the Uitenhage Cluster have arrested a total of 255 suspects during crime prevention operations that were conducted over the past weekend. Operations were conducted from Friday, 15 January 2016 until 06:00, this morning, Monday, 18 January 2016.
A total of 89 traffic fines were issued and arrests made varied from murder, robbery, theft, illegal possession of drugs, assault with the intent to do grievous bodily harm, eight (8) arrests were made for driving under the influence of liquor. A total of 122 fines were issued for other liquor related crimes. Two suspects were arrested with suspected stolen goods in their possession. 28 Persons were arrested and detained after illegal drugs were found in their possession.
Police in the Uitenhage Cluster will continue to host crime prevention operations and address crime effectively in their area. The South African Police Service appeal to the community to work with the SAPS in reducing crime by providing valuable information that will lead to the arrest of suspects and the recovery of stolen property.
