Jacques Potgieter will be South Africa’s 834th Springbok and it is fittingly appropriate that he will make his Test debut in Port Elizabeth, his place of birth and where he learned to play rugby.
Jacques Potgieter decided not to wait for the ascendancy of the EP Kings into Super Rugby in 2013 and moved to Pretoria at the conclusion of the 2011 Currie Cup season in order to compete in the 2012 Super Rugby season for the Bulls.
The Kings loss soon became the Blue Bulls and South Africa’s gain as Potgieter was selected to be part of the Springbok Squad to play against England.
Jacques has now demonstrated tangibly how Eastern Province continues to lose players of a high calibre – maybe now the locals will support the Kings 100% and people outside of the Eastern Province will desist from casting aspersions whilst benefiting from the talent drain out of EP to other Super Rugby franchises?
Some of the Twitteractions below:
@JeanSmyth @702JohnRobbie So it’s Wynand “34 tests and still no impact” Olivier and Jacques “headless chicken” Potgieter. Great, can’t wait.

Rollercoaster of a day for Jacques #Potgieter. Named in #Bok squad but pouring with rain here. Now has to go practice and get his hair wet.
