Port Elizabeth – The Democratic Alliance’s mayoral candidate
for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip, launched the party’s “register to
vote” campaign on Monday.
The party put up hundreds of posters around Port Elizabeth
on Monday to remind South Africans to register to vote during the first
registration weekend in March.
Trollip said Nelson Mandela Bay residents had the
opportunity to elect a government that delivered better services, cut
corruption and created jobs.
“For too long, we have been at the mercy of rampant
unemployment, corruption, unacceptable housing backlogs, dilapidated RDP homes,
murderous gangsterism and drugs – all because the ANC government in NMB has
given up on delivering a better future,” he said in a statement.
Registering to vote was the first step in bringing about
change, he said.
