Lovers of classical music will be treated to “A Romantic Rendezvous” with multiple award-winning Cape Town-based soprano Vanessa Tait-Jones, Dutch pianist Jeroen Roffel and local clarinettist Gareth Williams on Sunday, September 8.
They will be playing a romantic blend of vocal and instrumental music from Schubert, Spohr, Mendelssohn and Mozart.
It will be held in the NMMU Auditorium (South Campus) from three in the afternoon.
Tait-Jones is a lecturer at the University of Stellenbosch and also works in voice rehabilitation at Tygerberg Hospital.
Awards include the ATKV Muziqanto competition and a Kanna award at this year’s KKNK festival as a member of the South African Sopranos.
The event will also feature the concert debut of the TwoTone Clarinet Quintet, led by Gareth Williams. The quintet consists of NMMU music alumni who teach music at various schools across the Metro, including Summerwood Primary, Priory, Woodridge and Linkside.
Concert director Gareth Williams of TwoTone Music (also a woodwind lecturer at NMMU) says they have been looking for an opportunity to perform beautiful vocal music featuring Vanessa Tait-Jones for some time.
“We are excited to host this concert which promises to thrill lovers of fine music. We are planning more of these concerts next year in collaboration with the NMMU department of Arts and Culture, featuring some of the country’s top performers.
Tickets cost R80 (R50 for students and pensioners) and can be purchased at the door. For more information, contact TwoTone Music at 071 889 2203.
