Just after midnight, Friday, 02 September, NSRI Port Elizabeth duty crew launched the sea rescue craft Eikos Rescuer IV to respond to the vessel Tilos, a supply ship at anchorage 6nm from Port Elizabeth Port, following a request for medical assistance from the ship reporting a 42 year old Filipino crewman suffering a hand injury after his left hand was caught in rigging during normal ship working operations.
On arrival on the scene the crewman was found to be in a stable condition having received medical treatment from the ships medics onboard.
He had sustained 4 fractures to the left hand (2 finger fractures, a palm fracture and a wrist fracture).
The sailor was taken aboard the sea rescue craft and brought into Port where the ships agent transported the sailor to hospital. The patient was in a stable condition (walking wounded).
