Three suspects were caught red-handed as they tried to steal a vehicle parked in Main Road, Walmer on Tuesday 25 February.
At about 13h40, a white bakkie aroused the suspicions of an ADT Security Armed Response Officer (ARO) who was on patrol in Main Road. The officer wrote down its registration number and stopped at the Walmer Police Station where it was confirmed that the bakkie had earlier been reported stolen.
The ARO radioed for back-up before he continued to patrol the area. It was not long before his support arrived; or before they spotted the suspicious white bakkie and its three occupants trying to steal a car parked nearby. The officers apprehended all three suspects who were handed over for arrest to the local police.
Manager of ADT Security’s Port Elizabeth Branch, Ryan Britz, commended the officers for their pro-activity and diligence which led to the arrest of the suspects.
“We place a high value on building and maintaining good working relationships with members of the public, community safety groups and the police. This success again illustrates the importance of each of these partnerships and is an example of how they can yield positive results in efforts by all stakeholders to curb crime in our community.”
