THREE players have made their return to the Fiji sevens team to participate at the HSBC Sevens World Series tournaments in Scotland and London.
They are Suva winger Vilitati Sokiveta, new Wardens recruit Joji Ragamate and Setefano Cakau who was given the captain’s armband.
Digicel Fiji sevens head coach Alifereti Dere has retained nine players from the Hong Kong and Japan tournaments.
Hong Kong 7s star Osea Kolinisau was dropped from the team after failing to recover from an injury.
“Osea injured himself over the weekend and he failed to recover in the past three days. So that was why we made changes into the team,” Dere said.
He said the inclusion of Cakau and Sokiveta would add speed to the team.
“We have made three changes in this team. Cakau comes back in so as Joji and Sokiveta. All these players have played at this level before and no one is a stranger to the IRB Series.
Cakau and Ragamate missed the previous leg in Hong Kong and Japan while Sokiveta travelled with the team to Dubai and Port Elizabeth.
“Cakau has matured and he has experience. He is a quality player and will add more speed and depth in the forwards. He also has the skills and leadership role that commands players’ respect.”
“Sokiveta went with the team to Dubai and Port Elizabeth and Joji is back after his Wardens recruit.”
He added Levani Botia is yet to fully recover from his injury. The Scotland tournament is scheduled for May 4-5.
