The Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has reopened the Third Avenue Dip in Newton Park for traffic from 4pm this afternoon as a result of the fast and efficient work by contractors after the recent floods.
In a statement posted on the municipality’s Facebook page, it said that the opening of the road would undoubtedly make a difference to the congestion in the William Moffett Expressway during peak hours.
“Motorists are requested to exercise the necessary care when using the road as heavy machinery will still be busy next to the road for at least another month,” the statement read.
If necessary, the municipality said they would close the road periodically, for short periods, in order for work to be completed, but said that motorists would be informed if this was required.
“Furthermore, the broadening of William Moffett Expressway from two to three lanes is still ongoing. Motorists are requested to be patient as workers are doing their best to remove the old lanes and painting new lanes from scratch,” they said.
