South African Springboks vs New Zealand All Blacks Port Elizabeth. The Springboks won this game 18 – 5 in a very physical encounter.
Editor: In light of this past weekend’s loss by the Springboks to the All Blacks in Auckland by 29-15 and calls for the ref, Romain Poite’s head after a number of dodgy decisions I thought that I would remind you of what people on the other side of the Southern Ocean were saying about the All Blacks loss on 20 August 2011 in Port Elizabeth; “The ref is having a shocker – rubbish calls, he is letting the Springboks ref the game.”
After Saturday’s game the International Rugby Board (IRB) admitted French referee Romain Poite made an “unfortunate” mistake.
Du Plessis was sent off early in the second half after a second yellow card offence during their 29-15 loss to New Zealand in a Rugby Championship Test in Auckland on Saturday.
However, following a review of the incidents, the IRB has deemed that Poite was incorrect to issue a yellow card to du Plessis for the first incident in the 17th minute.
In a statement, the IRB said Poite had accepted the tackle on All Blacks fly half Dan Carter, which forced the star off the field with a shoulder injury, was within the laws of the game.
Although the match in PE during 2011 should make you think of happier times.
