This year will see the third running of the 24 Hour Sailing Endurance Challenge on Port Elizabeth‘s North End Lake.
Organised by the Redhouse Yacht Club (RYC) and hosted from the North End Lake Powerboat club the challenge is simple – teams of sailors (and paddlers) are challenged to see how far they can sail (or paddle) in 24 hours.
The challenge is open to the following two man dinghies: GP14, Enterprise, Mirror, Sonnet, Bosun, Pico, 420 and Two-Man paddle craft. A special handicap will be applied and all dinghies must conform to class rules.
Teams must consist of a minimum of 6 and maximum of 10 persons.
The Algoa Bay Yacht Club won the 2016 event and sailed 100 kilometres (60 nautical miles) in the 24 hours.
The 2017 twenty-four event will start at 12h00 on Saturday 11 February and end on Sunday 12 February at 12h00.
