Events organizers were sabotaged by the municipality last week when they were given all of two days to plan and pull together the 2013 Splash Festival.
With the limited time to organize the event and with weather forecasts available early in the week, why was the Splash Festival not cancelled?
The poor planning led to confusion among many stallholders who are now reporting that they made a loss during the weekend.
The East London Fair was cancelled by event organisers due to predictably poor weather conditions. Reasons for the cancellation included disruption to planned events and “poor sales for vendors and stallholders”.
Why were these factors not considered by the Splash Festival organizers? If they were, then why were they ignored?
My previous questions to the standing committee remain unanswered but the relevant officials can be assured that there are many more questions coming their way.
This entire debacle is a symptom of the poor planning that occurs throughout the municipality and the relevant officials must be held accountable.
