Dear Friends, Business, Ratepayers and Civil Society,
Firstly, we would like to thank you all who have signed the hundreds dispute forms so far. It is also worth noting that for the first time in years everybody got involved with this action. We are aiming for R50M in potential rates withholding. We have received disputes from many of major ratepayers and businesses and it feels that all the hours invested over the past couple of years have been worth every minute.
Our planned cut off date is the 28th of August and I know and believe we will double the number of dispute forms we have already received. We from the NMBRA want to thank all the volunteers who have been running around delivering and picking up forms, attending meetings in Coffee Shops with friends to bring them aboard. Just “thank you” all for standing together and for anyone who said that we won`t get enough support, we invite you to reconsider.
If you still have to send yours in, please do so before the 28th. We would like to deliver all signed disputes forms to the NMB Metro before month end after which we will call on all ratepayers to delay payment for September until the 20th. This should send a clear message to the Metro and MEC how this action will financially affect them if they fail to take note of our demands.
Regards
Kobus Gerber
