The rehabilitation of John Tallant Road, an important arterial connecting the hub of Uitenhage and Despatch to the N2, as well as a section of Old Grahamstown Road starts today, Wednesday 5 June at 9:00 am.
John Tallant will now become a temporary one-way road in an Easterly direction (ED: towards the sea).
Motorists who normally travel from Port Elizabeth in the direction of Swartkops or Despatch on the John Tallant Road must now detour via Burman Road, Baxter or Stephenson Street and Grahamstown Road, Deal Party. Sign boards are currently put in place to inform motorists of the new development.
The increase in traffic led to the deterioration of the pavement structure on John Tallant and Grahamstown Roads and the problem was further exacerbated by the high volumes of heavy vehicles using these roads.
We would like to encourage motorists to exercise extra care as the road works will lead to traffic disruptions and delays may occur from time to time.
The contract for the rehabilitation of these roads is over a 12 months period.
