Schools, businesses, community organisations and sports organisations stand to win a prize worth R15 000 by participating in the annual Algoa FM Big Walk for Cancer.
Presented by the Eastern Cape Department of Health, the Big Walk is one of the biggest charity events in the province.
Close to 12 000 participants turned the Port Elizabeth beach-front into a sea of pink T-shirts in 2015.
This year it is taking place on Saturday, October 29.
Beneficiaries of the 18th annual Big Walk for Cancer are the Igazi Foundation, CANSA and CHOC.
All teams with at least 200 participants in the Big Walk will qualify to win the R15 000 prize, which includes a three hour Algoa FM activation at the premises, event or function of the organisation hosted by one of the Algoa FM DJs, a pre-publicity campaign and three live crossings during the event, according to Algoa FM public relations and corporate social responsibility manager Jennilee Peremore.
“Anyone can enter on behalf of the team, including friends and family. All they have to do is to fill in their school, business or club name, as the team name on their Big Walk entry forms,” she says.
The entry fee for the five kilometre walk is R60.
It starts at The Boardwalk in Summerstrand at eight in the morning.
Entry forms can be collected and entry fees paid at Brian Bands in Cape Road; Brocketts in Uitenhage; Total Sports in Cleary Park Shopping Centre and Baywest Mall.
Entries are also available at the Algoa FM studio in Port Elizabeth and online at algoafm.co.za.
“We’ve made it easy to enter 15 people or more by using our bulk-entry process and we encourage teams to use this system, all details available on algoafm.co.za”, says Peremore.
