In a release today the Transnet National Ports Authority said that it has deemed it necessary to temporarily suspend operations at the Port of Port Elizabeth‘s Tanker Berth.
The spokesperson said that the decision was made based on the need to cnduct emergency repairs to the facility, done in consultation with the oil companies and in the interest of safe operations.
A contractor is already on site and the Tanker Berth is envisaged to be back in operation on Monday 8 December 2014. The oil companies have contingency plans in place to ensure continuity of supply.
Port of Port Elizabeth Port Manager, Rajesh Dana said; “Transnet National Ports Authority together with the oil companies will continue to ensure that the Port of Port Elizabeth’s Liquid Bulk Terminal remains safe for efficient cargo operations until the commissioning of the Tank Farm in the Port of Nqura in 2019.”
