King William’s Town — Swift reaction by Port Elizabeth Flying Squad led to the arrest of three (3) suspects aged between 17 and 30 years and the recovery of a hijacked vehicle last night, 25 February 2015 at about 22:30, at Mercantile Taxi rank in Korsten.
It is alleged that a 19-year-old woman was waiting for a friend in her vehicle when she was confronted by three suspects in Oceanview Street, Humewood, Port Elizabeth. One of the suspects was armed with a firearm and demanded the phone and car keys. The suspects fled the scene with the vehicle.
The incident was reported to 10111 and the information was circulated immediately. The vehicle was spotted 30 minutes later in the Schaurderville area and a high speed chase ensued between the police and the suspects. The suspects fired shots at the police, police members retaliated. Two of the suspects, one a female, were taken to hospital for gunshot wounds and are under police guard.
The third suspect was arrested and will appear in the Port Elizabeth Magistrates’ Court on Monday, 02 March 2015 on charges of hijacking, attempted murder and reckless and negligent driving.
