Moroka Swallows will take part in the inaugural pre-season premier tournament known as the Cape Town Soccer Challenge.
As previously reported by the crew, league champions Mamelodi Sundowns, Wits, Chippa United and Ajax Cape Town are going to battle against each other in this challenge, however, the crew has learnt that PSL returnees, United are no longer taking part and Swallows will replace them.
In a statement to the crew, CSuns Marketing Manager, Soni Gxwala, said they are delighted to announce that Moroka Swallows Football Club will join the event.
Gxwala said the Dube Birds will replace Chilli Boys as the club has recently announced their relocation to the city of Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape.
“Swallows will replace former Phillipi stationed Chippa United. The club, which is soon to be based in Nelson Mandela Bay, has been withdrawn from the contest by tournament management owing to various reasons. Moroka Swallows is considered one of the original Soweto giants, together with Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates, with a respectable national fan base and will inject more substance to the pre-season tournament.
“Previous matches between all the four participants which include the current premiership champions, Mamelodi Sundowns, last year’s Nedbank Cup runners-up, Wits and Ajax, have been end-to-end mouth-watering encounters. There’s no doubt that sparks will fly during the event and all the clubs will get the necessary tough preparations they need for pre-season,” added Gxwala.
The tournament will be staged at Athlone Stadium between July 25 – 27, with CSuns Holdings, a leading entertainment company with divisions in sport, events management, promotions and records based in Cape Town, having come on-board as sponsors for the challenge.
Tickets are available at Computicket.
