Second-placed Downs moved to within eight points of the league leaders following their win over Polokwane City last week, with the Glamour Boys suffering their first defeat of the season to Black Aces.
The Brazilians, who have a game in hand over Chiefs, have now won two consecutive Premiership games, while they have four vitories in their last five outings.
Pitso Mosimane’s men have also only lost once in their last 16 games in all competitions, a 1-0 defeat to Bidvest Wits at the start of the month.
Sundowns also come into the midweek game off the back of a 1-0 win over TP Mazembe in the CAF Champions League on Saturday.
Chippa, meanwhile, have not tasted victory in their last 12 games in all competitions, while their league form sees them sitting 12th in the standings, three points clear of the relegation places.
The Chilli Boys, though, have lost just two of their last five outings in the league – to Ajax Cape Town and Orlando Pirates, while they have drawn 1-1 with Maritzburg United, Polokwane City and AmaZulu.
They will have felt fortunate following their most recent draw, scraping a share of the spoils thanks to a Roscoe Pietersen own goal against a 10-man AmaZulu side.
The last meeting between the two sides finished in a 1-1 draw at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium back in October.
