NELSON Mandela Bay is bursting at the seams with the 2012 Spec-Savers Ironman South Africa weekend already under way with the Irongirl race kicking off at 4pm today (Friday).
With the gruelling main race taking place from 7am on Sunday, in which more than 1700 athletes from around the country and overseas are set to compete, the public has been warned several roads will be closed on Sunday from as early as 5am. These include Marine Drive and Buffelsfontein Road which will be closed until 5.30pm with crossovers available to the public at designated areas.
The crossover intersections on Heugh/Buffelsfontein Road will be at the following points: 1st Avenue Walmer; 3rd Avenue Walmer; 6th Avenue Walmer; 9th Avenue Walmer; 10th Avenue Walmer; 17th Avenue Walmer and Melsetter Road.
Full road closure will apply to all roads connecting into the route from Mount Pleasant to Kini Bay and back to Hobie Beach. The following roads will be closed: Seaview Road, Heron Road, Sardinia Bay Road, Victoria Drive and Marine Drive.
Drivers must also note that Marine Drive from the NMMU back gate to Driftsands Drive will be closed until midnight.
