Unfortunately you have probably noticed the ongoing and noisy strike action in front of the Summerbreezz Spar, corner of Admiralty Way and Strandfontein Rd.
We are aware of the unpleasant and unacceptable noise that these strikers are making, including vuvuzela noise.
The Ward 1 office has contacted various Municipal departments, including Safety Security, to try and get some action against these noisy strikers.
We have also been in contact with the Humewood SAPS and they are monitoring the situation.
Unfortunately the SAPS are reluctant to try to confiscate the vuvuzela’s, as this will highten tensions.
Summerbreezz Spar management have tried to reason with these illegal strikers and they have advised that the strike action might continue for some time.
SAPS are patrolling on a regular basis and they did confiscate sticks and tyres that strikers were planning to use earlier in the week.
We will keep trying to get officials to act against these illegal strikers, but please be patient and bear with us.
For your information, a similar situation exists at the Newton Park Spar, and they have already been on strike for two weeks.
Summerbreezz Spar is open for trading, and Dennis Hayes apologises to those who are being inconvenienced by the noisy strikers.
Cllr Stanford Slabbert
NMBM – Ward 1
