The legendary Rodriguez will be returning to South Africa next year.
Big Concerts confirmed that the Sugarman is to perform here in January and February.
The legendary singer-songwriter began performing in bars and clubs around the US city of Detroit in the 1960s, and recorded only two studio albums, Cold Fact in 1969 and Coming from Reality in 1971.
While these went unnoticed in the US, Rodriguez found fame in South Africa.
He stopped making music for a while, earning a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from Wayne State University, running for political office and working construction and factory jobs to support his family.
His last tour to South Africa sold out in minutes.
Big Concerts said yesterday Rodriguez would return to South Africa to perform at Joburg’s TicketPro Dome (January 29), Port Elizabeth’s Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium Outer Fields (February 3) and Cape Town’s Grand Arena, GrandWest (February 5 and 6).
Tickets go on sale tomorrow at Computicket, ranging from R395 to R680.
