Get Steve director, Steven Lancaster, was inducted as President of the Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth West on Thursday 26 June, 2013.
In the glamorous and friendly environment of Manas, The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth West hosted their Induction Dinner where the new board and its president were inducted as officers for the club for the next 12 months.
The Rotary Club of Port Elizabeth West is one of only 5 clubs in the Southern part of Rotary District 9370 (Central, Southern and Eastern South Africa and Lesotho) that achieved a Presidential Citation over the last Rotary year. The outgoing president, Angela Newton, is to be highly commended on her drive to maintain the club’s standards and commitment to the community of Nelson Mandela Bay.
As part of the ceremony each year, a member of the Club is selected as “Rotarian of the Year”. They are presented with the roving “Lionel Mason Award”. This is in recognition of contributions to Rotary, the Club, and the community. For the first time this award was shared between two people, Janine Hoffman (President Elect, and Jinja Promotions) and Steven Lancaster. Both were humbled and surprised. Janine commented that “we contribute to Rotary and the community because it is who we are. We want to leave our world a better place.”
In his induction speech, Steven joked that, “taking over from Angela I have some high heels to fill. The Club is active, ambitious and will continue to strive to uphold the Rotary 4 Way Test and practice its motto: Service Above Self.
“Rotary has 6 Areas of Focus, and one of these is Economic and Community Development. Our Club will think about the projects we undertake as economic spinoff and investment by our community and in our community are so important”.
