This year, 2014 South Africa celebrates 20 years of democracy. This gives us as a people an opportunity to reflect on the progress that government has made and challenges experienced since 1994. It gives us an opportunity to reflect honestly in order to be able to acknowledge the areas where government has excelled and take note of the areas of that need improvement.
It is for these and many reasons that we see it fit that as a country we celebrate and reflect on this remarkable achievement when the municipality hosts its State of the Metro Address (SOMA) which will be addressed by the honourable Executive Mayor, Councillor Benson Fihla. The Executive Mayor is expected to touch on the journey that South Africa, Eastern Cape and most importantly the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality has travelled since 1994. He will also be expected to highlight the achievements that have been made by the ANC led government since 1994. The Executive Mayor’s address is also expected to make an honest reflection on the current state of the City, short, medium and long term plans to strengthen governance and speed-up service delivery.
SOMA takes place in the Feathermarket Hall on 11 April 2014 at 18h00.
