A Special meeting of the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality’s council will be convened this morning (Wednesday, 6 August) at the Woolboard Exchange in Military Road at 09:00 in honour of Councillor Manelisi Vumazonke and Councillor Buyisile Mkavu.
Speaker of Council, Cllr Maria Hermans, reminded councillors to be appropriate dressed as it is a formal council meeting.
Councillor Vumazonke, affectionately known as Lucky, succumbed to a long illness on July 27 after a brave fight, and Cllr Buyisile Mkavu, a fearless advocate for social justice, was murdered on Saturday, 2 August.
Memorial Service/Funeral arrangements
A memorial service for Cllr Mkavu will be held on Thursday, 7 August at 16:30 at the Allanridge Community Hall and his civic funeral service will take place on Saturday, 9 August at 09:00 at the same venue. He will be laid to rest at the Jubilee Cemetery.
Speaker Hermans appealed to those who will be attending the service to be seated at 08:30.
