It comes as no surprise that Mayor Jordaan has indefinitely cancelled his State of the Metro Address, given the growing list of ANC broken promises in Nelson Mandela Bay.
In light of the fact that NMB has the highest unemployment rate of any South African Metro at 36.6%, as well as drastically declining levels of service delivery, we need bold and decisive leadership from the Mayor. Instead the people of NMB are left counting his broken and empty promises.
The new ANC administration led by Mayor Jordaan has neglected to fulfil its promises, amongst which is the failure to; deliver weekly refuse collection in every ward by October 2015; establish a Metro Police Force; wage a war on water leaks; eradicate the more than 30,000 bucket toilets and rectify the more than 40,000 poorly built RDP houses.
The cancellation of this important scheduled council meeting is an abandonment of the urgent issues, and of the people who deserve answers for the ANC’s failure to deliver.
Under the DA, the State of the Metro Address would have been prioritised in order to outline a clear vision for this Metro.
The DA believes that a new and inspiring vision for the Bay is needed in order to kick start economic growth and get Nelson Mandela Bay out of its current state of stagnation.
With this clear vision in place, residents will live in an inclusive city where they feel safe. Our people will live in a Metro that is forward thinking in its planning, and that cares about its residents and about their well-being.
NMB can become a municipality of rising opportunity!
The DA is determined to win Nelson Mandela Bay at this year’s municipal election to usher in a government that delivers better services, cuts corruption and creates jobs.
Change is coming.
