Seven Democratic Alliance (DA) ward councillors have defected from the party and have joined forces with the African National Congress (ANC) in Nelson Mandela Bay.
The disgruntled members say they have worked hard for their communities but have allegedly been treated badly by their former party.
They say they have been mistreated and verbally abused by the DA leadership.
They have also dismissed allegations that they were bribed by the ANC to join the party.
Former DA member, Knight Mali says: “We condemn these allegations in the strongest terms. They are unfounded, in fact they are trumped up and manufactured by the DA’s Atholl Trollip. We have never been bribed or received any monies to join the ANC. I am still committed to fighting for justice and eradicating racism that’s one of the reasons why I decided to defect and join the ANC.”
DA member, Nqaba Bhanga says: “It’s a shame for them because they have been sold and bought by Danny Jordaan. Their souls have been sold and we believe that many more people will be joining the DA in fact we get people wanting to join our party every day. No matter where we go if it’s at a church or any other social gathering people come out in their numbers to join.”
