PORT ELIZABETH – A 33-year-old Port Elizabeth man will be sentenced in the Eastern Cape High Court on Thursday for raping a six-year-old girl two years ago.
Xolile Tose, an aquaintance of the girl’s family, lured the child to an empty shack, promising to buy her R20 worth of treats.
He brutally raped her throughout the night, while her mother looked frantically for her.
He released her the next morning with injuries so severe, she now wears a colostomy bag.
Family members say they can finally close a traumatic chapter of their lives, but the little girl faces a long road to physical and psychological recovery.
A court-appointed psychologist has diagnosed the child, now eight-years-old, with the intelligence of a five-year-old.
The trauma of the rape has stunted her psychological growth.
The next step in her journey is to undergo a much-needed operation.
