The South African Local Government Association (SALGA) has congratulated Danny Jordaan for his election as new mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay City in Eastern Cape Province. Jordaan, the former Local Organising Committee chair of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and who currently chairs the South African Football Association, was elected as the new executive mayor of the Nelson Mandela Bay City on Thursday.
In a message on Saturday, SALGA said it extends a warm welcome to Jordaan as he begins his exciting journey in a challenging and dynamic local government space.
“As organised local government, we pledge SALGA’s ever readiness to support and assist Jordaan in steering the city into calmer and stable waters as part of our common vision to improve service delivery and better the lives of our people,â€? the association said.
Jordaan, in his address after being elected, said he was committed to addressing challenges of education, unemployment, economic development and drug abuse in the city.
He said he would within the next few weeks spell out a comprehensive support plan to turn around the fortunes of the troubled city.
