Steps have been taken to further boost security in Beverley Grove with the establishment of a Community Security Scheme (CSS) for the area.
Earlier this year, the Beverley Grove Neighbourhood Watch (BGNW) was launched following the murder of a local resident in January. More recently, residents approached the Watch to request a more personalised and permanent security service in the suburb; and ADT Security was given the go-ahead to introduce a CSS.
Under the service, ADT will provide dedicated street and vehicle patrols in the area – that includes Beverley Grove, Kamma Creek and Kamma Ridge – to deter criminal activity.
Ryan Britz, Acting Branch Manager of ADT Security in Port Elizabeth and Jeffreys Bay, explained that their Community Security Schemes have proven successful in several neighbourhoods.
“A CSS is a ring-fenced neighbourhood that has entered into a partnership with us to implement additional measures to improve its security; this is always done in close liaison with the South African Police Service.”
“These schemes add steel to any suburb because they are tailor-made with the unique needs of individual communities in mind.”
Chairperson of the BGNW, Natalie Fleetwood, appealed to residents to support the initiative and added that it will only be to the benefit and safety of their loved ones.
“ADT has remained committed and loyal to our cause and play an intricate part in us obtaining information pertaining to crime in our area. Residents will have peace of mind knowing ADT is out there constantly patrolling our streets and keeping a watchful eye. By having direct contact with the patrol officer on duty, residents will have a more immediate response to any threat or emergency.”
Fleetwood said that it is vital that partnerships between the community, the police and private security companies are formed and maintained.
“Together we can ensure that problems are solved jointly and more speedily. The role of residents is to help create a safe and nurturing environment by observing and reporting any suspicious and possible criminal activities to security companies and the police, as this has proven to be a very effective crime prevention tool.”
