Tomorrow, Friday 6 October 2017, the Democratic Alliance Student Organisation (DASO) Constituency Leader, Hlomela Bucwa MP, will lead a mass picket outside the Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court following the arrest of the suspect allegedly responsible for Monday’s violent attacks at the Nelson Mandela University (NMU) where one student was raped and another stabbed.
The suspect will appear in court tomorrow at 09:00.
We would like to encourage students and members of society to join us as we stand in solidarity with our sisters who were victims of a crime that should never have happened in a free and democratic country.
We request that protesters come dressed in black.
It is now time to stand together and fight for the safety of our campuses regardless of our political differences. DASO will do everything in its power to ensure that our campuses are safe spaces where students can move freely and safely.
Details of the event are as follows:
- Date: Friday, 6 October 2017
- Time: 08:00
- Venue: Outside Port Elizabeth Magistrates Court – 584 Govan Mbeki Ave, North End, Port Elizabeth
