PORT ELIZABETH – The Democratic Alliance in the Eastern Cape is calling upon residents, particularly the youth, to register to vote for the upcoming local government elections.
Head of Campaign Communications, Kristoff Adelbert, said the #PledgeToReg event would be an entertainment and music event at the Boardwalk Vodacom Amphitheater in Nelson Mandela Bay on Saturday morning, from 10am.
The DA is hosting well-known DJ Roger Goode, as well as other local performers.
“DA Mayoral Candidate for Nelson Mandela Bay, Athol Trollip, who will be joined by DA leader, Mmusi Maimane, who will address the Bay’s youth in a final push to get as many people registered as possible,” said Adelbert.
Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality is expected to be one of the most hotly-contested ‘major metros’ in the upcoming elections, scheduled to take place after May.
Currently run by the ANC, the metro is plagued by service delivery problems. Trollip believes the DA can overthrow the ANC in the metro.
“With youth unemployment at over 45% in Nelson Mandela Bay, this Metro’s young people are in desperate need of a new government with a new vision that creates economic growth,” said Trollip.
Later this month, the ANC will launch the 2016 Local Government Election Manifesto at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Final registrations for the elections take place on the 9-10 April.
