Residents are advised to make their way to the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium early on Friday morning as traffic will be redirected when the stadium is filled to capacity.
Those wishing to attend the provincial memorial service for Dr Nelson Mandela, that will be held at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium from 9am tomorrow, are advised to make their way to the stadium early as plans are in place to redirect buses if the stadium is filled to capacity.
Zahara, Lusanda Gospel Group, Eastern Cape Gospel Choir, Chapter Three, Raven Blu, Transnet Joy of Africa, Matthew Singers and other local artists will start the day with a musical tribute to honour our fallen struggle hero.
Dr Zweli Mkhize, ANC Treasurer, will deliver the keynote address.
The following roads will be closed from 05:30 on Friday, 13 December until after the Memorial Service of Dr Nelson Mandela:
- Stebonheath Road/Somers Road, Lakeview Road/Smart Road, Leyland Street/Rhodes Street, Leyland Street/Innes Street, Leyland/Shephard Street, Leyland/Bagshaw Street and the corner of Prince Alfred Road and Quick Street.
Park-and-walk sites have been identified and persons with special needs will be allowed access to the stadium parking areas via Fettes Road. However a valid paraplegic disc is required to gain access.
A Night Vigil will be held on Saturday night at 18:00 at the Nelson Mandela Bay Science and Technology Centre (next to the Uitenhage Taxi Rank) on Saturday. Residents are encouraged to attend this important event in their numbers as it is the night before the Official State Funeral of Former President Dr Nelson Mandela.
