Much loved Port Elizabeth icon, Vuyisa Ngomane (36), Viv Bozack, died at approximately 5pm on Tuesday 22 October 2013. The Ngomane family are beyond grief at the loss of Viv, who passed away three days after suffering a massive, sudden haemorrhagic stroke on Sunday.
Viv was stable throughout Tuesday, but suddenly took a turn for the worse in the afternoon. Doctors continued to keep him on life support and a respirator, but he deteriorated rapidly and later died.
This is the second loss the family has experienced in just over six months, after Viv’s father, Mveliso Ngomane, also died of a stroke in March.
Doctors advised that the stroke manifested at the stem of the brain and that the haemorrhaging was such that an operation was impossible. Viv suffered no pain and passed peacefully, doctors said.
The family are shocked and devastated at this unexpected turn. Family members are coming from around the Eastern Cape and South Africa from today. Funeral details will be announced in due course, but a memorial service is planned for Sunday, 27 October at the Athenaeum in Central at 2:00pm.
Viv will be fondly remembered for his outstanding achievements, as a leader who recognised the potential and encouraged the development, of all he met. He will also be recalled as a gregarious character who wooed the airwaves with his articulate and informed opinions, hearty laugh, and someone who radically shaped the local music and entertainment industry.
The family are grateful for the outpouring of love
