On Saturday we met with community members in Kwadwesi because they want to bring change to their community.
Change that will cut corruption and create jobs. Change that can realize Nelson Mandela’s 1994 dream, a dream that delivered hope and freedom to millions of South Africans.
Today, Tata Mandela’s dream has become a nightmare under Jacob Zuma’s ANC where hope for a better future has disappeared and our communities have become the victims of rampant corruption.
Corruption kills jobs and undermines service delivery because a corrupt government serves the connected few instead of serving all South Africans.
Corruption means that people who are politically connected get tenders, houses and jobs while deserving South Africans fall between the cracks of a government that is failing its people. We can see the results of this corruption right here in KwaDwesi.
Corruption means that service delivery in our communities is slow and sloppy instead of fast and efficient.
In the Eastern Cape the unemployment rate is now at 43%. This is nearly half of all potential workers in our province who have been relegated to the outside of the economy.
Since Jacob Zuma took office, corruption has increased and the South African economy has lost 1.4 million jobs. The DA believes that there is a direct link between the increase in corruption under Jacob Zuma’s ANC and increased unemployment right here in Nelson Mandela Bay.
