JOHANNESBURG – African National Congress (ANC) Eastern Cape chairperson Oscar Mabuyane says the party’s “apex priority” is to reclaim the Nelson Mandela Bay Municipality (NMBM).

Mabuyane was speaking to eNCA at the party’s 106th birthday celebrations in East London on Saturday.

“That is our apex priority in the Eastern Cape… We can’t enjoy anything without Nelson Mandela [Bay metro],” he said.

“It’s a serious thing to have allowed that situation to happen the way it happened.”

Mabuyane spared no blushes for the current leadership of the Democratic Alliance-led coalition with smaller parties in the metro.

“We can’t have Nelson Mandela being under that kind of leadership collaboration… We ‘ve created a programme, we are going to work on reclaiming back Nelson Mandela.”

We are working very hard. People of Nelson Mandela have spoken – actually instructed us – and said they want the ANC. The ANC must get right leaders to do what is right for people of South Africa.”

He urged the party to increase its support base across the country, saying the party needs to get right leadership to correct past mistakes.
